Imatinib, a small-molecule selective tyrosine-kinase inhibitor, is associated with high responsiveness in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors and it has been the standard adjuvant systemic treatment after tumor resection. This efficacy raises the question of laparoscopic surgery also in the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic GIST.
